Recommended routes:
From within Knoxville, refer to the map linked above. If arriving from points west of the Temple, it is important to note that, at times, making the necessary left turn from Kingston Pike into the Temple driveway can challenge one's patience and can even be life-threatening --- this is a very dangerous stretch of Kingston Pike. We therefore recommend that one only make right-hand turns into and out of our parking lot. If arriving from the west of Temple, it is possible to make one's eastbound leg on Sutherland Avenue, turn right onto Concord St, then right onto westbound Kingston Pike. Temple Beth El is then a mere right-hand turn 0.5 mile west.
From McGhee Tyson (TYS) Airport, take Alcoa Highway (U.S. 129) north in the direction of Knoxville. Just after crossing the Tennessee River, use the Kingston Pike exit. At the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp, turn left onto westbound Kingston Pike. Temple Beth El is about 0.7 mile ahead on your right. You will pass through one traffic-light-controlled intersection enroute.
From a distance, it is best to use the Interstate system. Exit I-40 at Exit 386 (for Alcoa Highway, U.S. 129; this is also the exit for McGhee Tyson Airport), then take the first exit on U.S. 129 (Kingston Pike). At the end of the exit ramp from U.S. 129, use the right-hand lane and turn right onto westbound Kingston Pike. Temple Beth El is 0.7 miles west of this point. You will pass through one traffic-light-controlled intersection at about 0.2 miles; 0.5 miles later, turn right into the Temple entrance.
Note that traffic flow is clockwise around the main building; as a consequence, entrance and exit lanes of the main driveway are reversed from the usual convention --- enter in the left driveway lane and keep to the left. There is parking in the rear, and a convenient canopied entrance for passenger discharge along the entrance driveway. Handicapped entrance (and parking) is most convenient at the front entrance, which requires driving completely around the building, because of the traffic flow pattern.
